Hessel Park Church is a member of the Reformed Church in America denomination. Yet in Christ we are connected with all Christians worldwide at all times.
What We Believe
We call ourselves Christian, Reformed, and Church because:
Christian: We belong to Jesus Christ and desire to be his followers. We recognize as fellow-Christians all people who accept the teachings of the Bible as summarized in the Apostle's Creed.
Reformed: We are part of that historic branch of the Christian church that follows the teachings of 16th-century reformers, who worked to connect Christianity with its biblical roots.
Church: God has called us to be a fellowship of his people in the world.
What is distinctive about being Christian and Reformed ?
We believe that our God is a Triune God who is One but made known to us as three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe that through his life, death on the cross, resurrection, and ascension Jesus Christ redeemed us from sin and the reign of death, and leads us into eternal life. Beyond these basic Christian beliefs:
We believe that all of life is governed by our faith. Not only on Sunday but also every day of the week our faith helps us make the important decisions of our life. Things like whom we marry, how we do our work, how we study this world in our schools—all of these things should be influenced by our faith and understanding of God's word.
We are genuinely working to be an inclusive church. We appreciate and embrace people of different gifts, races, languages, sexual identities, and traditions as members of our congregation.
We believe that the church is the family of God, a spiritual family. We value and support family life in all its forms. We come together as natural families and as singles to form this spiritual family. We believe God has established a covenant with us, promising to be our God and to love us as a family.
We believe that all Christians are God's servants, wherever God has placed them. Whether we work in the classroom, the factory, the farm, or the church, whether we attend school or stay at home, we use the gifts of ministry that God has given us to invite others to share with us in the blessings of His kingdom.
