CHRISTIAN REFORMED
Small Groups: Enriching Our Friendships, Our Faith and Our Worship
At Hessel Park Church, we are strongly committed to the importance of small groups. It is in small groups that Christian fellowship becomes especially rich. We learn and struggle together. We share and pray together. We hold one another accountable.
The fact that we're committed to small groups also affects our worship together on Sunday mornings. When we grow to care for one another in smaller group settings, we enter the sanctuary feeling loved, accepted and supported. We sing and worship more freely, and we understand better what it means to be "one body" as we all share the same bread and cup in the sacrament of the Lord's Supper.
There are a number of different groups with various meeting schedules and focuses--some spend most of their time in study while others focus on prayer. A few of the recent and current groups are described below. If you'd like more detail, or to learn about others, contact Pastor Tim Bossenbroek.
Women's Care Circle:
This small group meets the first and third Wednesday evenings at 7:00, usually at the home of Val McWilliams. The time is divided between discussing a book the group has chosen to study and supporting one another in prayer. For additional information contact Val McWilliams.
Mixed Bible Study:
A group that includes singles and couples from multiple age groups, this Bible study meets on alternate Tuesday evenings each month, at the O'Gormans' or Hamilton-Becker's. The group engages in prayer, fellowship, and study. In the FALL of 2009, the group is studying TBA. Contact Ned or Jim for more information.
Evening Book Discussion Group:
Meets every other Monday night, at the Bossenbroeks'. This fall the group is reading and discussing Receiving the Day: Christian Practices for Opening the Gift of Time, by Dorothy Bass. For additional information, contact Pastor Tim.
Campus Book Discussion Group:
This group meets every other Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Lutheran Campus Center, 909 S. Wright Street. The fall, 2009 book is Desiring the Kingdom: Worship, Worldview and Cultural Formation, by James K. A. Smith, Professor of Philosophy at Calvin College. For more details, visit the online description or contact Pastor Tim.
Student Groups:
While we encourage students to participate in small groups within the church, we recognize that time is limited. For this reason, many students opt to join small groups on campus with such groups as InterVarsity. For undergraduates, Pastor Tim or Eriko Hata can put you in contact with InterVarsity. For graduate students, contact David Suryk.
